Lagos, in leather and concrete

Notes on the city's modernist buildings and what a shoe can learn from them.

The buildings we look at most are not decorative. They are concrete, exposed, ruled by the sun: deep brise-soleil, long horizontal lines, shade as a structural idea.

We think about a shoe the same way. Structure first, then the few details that earn their place. Where a building uses shadow, a shoe uses a channel in the sole or a single line of stitching.

Structure first. Ornament only if it works.
